Sameness & Safety

"When we are taught that safety lies always with sameness, then difference, of any kind, will appear as a threat. When we choose to love we choose to move against fear-against alienation and separation. The choice to love is a choice to connect-to find ourselves in the other."--bell hooks

We are taught from an early age, the importance of sameness, and we often observe the possible consequences and/or punishment of being difference. We internalize the impact of difference, and often speak, think, and/or feel the way it moves within us. The impact of difference can be traumatizing and the start of our own liberation. Here are some questions to pounder in the move to embrace difference. In movement to invite love.

When did you first notice you were different?

What was your emotional response?

Did you edit or grow into your difference?

What was the impact on your well-being?
