A free virtual first therapy session for post-secondary students in Ontario
August 26 – September 25, 2026
Let’s be honest: finding a therapist can be hard.
There are profiles to read, approaches to understand, credentials to compare, and the inevitable question of whether you’ll actually click with the person on the other side of the screen.
Then comes the consultation.
Maybe it’s 15 minutes. Maybe 20. You talk about what you’re looking for, the therapist explains a little about how they work, and before you know it, the call is over.
And you’re left wondering:
“Is this person actually right for me?”
That’s a pretty big question to answer in a short phone call.
Therapy is personal. The relationship matters.
Therapy isn’t just about finding someone with the right credentials or choosing an approach that sounds interesting.
It’s also about how you feel in the room, even when that room is virtual.
Do you feel comfortable?
Do you feel listened to?
Can you imagine being honest with this person?
Do you feel like they understand where you’re coming from?
Can you see yourself building trust with them over time?
Sometimes you know quickly that someone feels like a good fit.
Sometimes you need more than a conversation on the phone to know.
And sometimes you meet with a therapist and realize they aren’t the right person for you.
That’s okay, too.
Finding the right therapist can take some trial and error. It doesn’t mean you’re difficult, doing therapy “wrong,” or asking for too much.
It means you’re looking for a relationship that feels supportive and workable for you.
We want to make that first step a little easier.
From August 26 to September 25, 2026, we’re offering a free first virtual therapy session to all post-secondary students in Ontario.
Our therapy is offered virtually, making it possible to connect with your therapist from wherever you are in Ontario.
We’re doing this because we believe that a brief phone consultation can be useful, but sometimes, it simply isn’t enough.
You deserve a chance to experience what working with a therapist actually feels like before deciding whether you want to continue.
Here’s how the offer works
As a post-secondary student in Ontario, you can book up to three phone consultations with our therapists:
David Da Silva MSW, RSW Therapist
Shamilla James MSW, RSW Therapist
Nikki Tollenaar Registered Psychotherapist Qualifying
Willow Salehi Varela MSW, RSW Therapist
These conversations are an opportunity to ask questions, share a little about what you’re looking for, and get a sense of each therapist’s personality and approach.
If you find a therapist you connect with — someone you feel you can genuinely vibe with, you can book one free first virtual session with that therapist.
That session gives you more space to experience the therapeutic relationship for yourself.
Not just:
“Do I like this therapist’s profile?”
But:
“Do I feel comfortable enough here to do this work?”
And if it feels right?
Great. You can continue virtual therapy with that therapist at our student rate of $130 per session, using eligible insurance coverage through your school or your parents where applicable.
We know that cost can be one more barrier when you’re a student.
We also know that the process of finding help can feel overwhelming when you’re already managing school, finances, relationships, work, family, and all the other moving pieces of being a young adult.
So we wanted to remove one small piece of that pressure.
You don’t have to know immediately.
You don’t have to choose the first therapist you speak to.
You don’t have to convince yourself that a therapist is a good fit just because their credentials look great on paper.
You get to pay attention to how you feel.
A little permission to take your time
If you’ve been thinking about therapy but haven’t taken the next step, maybe the biggest thing we want you to know is this:
It’s okay to look for the right fit.
It’s okay to have questions.
It’s okay to meet more than one therapist.
It’s okay if your first choice doesn’t feel right.
And it’s okay to want a therapist who makes you feel safe enough to be honest, curious enough to explore, and supported enough to do meaningful work.
Our hope is that this free first-session offer gives post-secondary students across Ontario a little more freedom to find that fit.
Three conversations. One free virtual first session with the therapist who feels right. And no pressure to decide before you’re ready.
